Shots from the Show #6

Earlier last month I participated in Slow Art Day at the Nurture Nature Center in Easton, Pa. The event is international and promotes mindfulness in looking at art work. The idea is to look at work with intention, rigor and joy. You can find the link to Slow Art Day here. My friend Michelle Niefert asked me to participate in this years display at Nurture Nature and we selected a work from The Deadly Papa Butum series for the event. Here’s the work we selected, Deadly Papa Butum #5

Anthony Smith, The Deadly Papa Butum 5, 24 x 24 inches, mixed media, 2015 small

Participants at Slow Art Day are invited write their view of the work for the artist to read later. I so rarely receive unvarnished views of my work and so I thought I’d upload 4 responses here.

These remarks were very thoughtful and gave me lots of food for thought about how others see my work. I’s sure these views will influence my pieces in the future, more as an act of defiance probably.

On another note, one of my favorite hip hop artists released a new video a couple days ago. Here is Azealia Banks’s “The Big Bad Beat”.

Okay a short post for today. Until next time…
